Founded in 1927, Shorewood Hills remains a quiet enclave adjacent to UW—Madison, yet in the heart of the Greater Madison region.

University Avenue marks the southern border of Shorewood Hills. The shopping center boasts local favorites such as Vom Foss, Penzey’s Spices and Bliss Flow Yoga & Wellness Center.

Over the years as the City of Madison and the University of Wisconsin grew, expanded and gradually urbanized, the village worked to keep much of its natural landscape.

Developed slowly over time, Shorewood Hills is known for its distinctive and varied architecture. The First Unitarian Society was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

While many homes are a prairie style, Shorewood Hills is architecturally diversified. You will find English tudor, International or Moderne style homes adjacent to homes of vernacular architecture.

In 1930, Shorewood Hills created the Community League. This volunteer organization sponsors social functions, welcomes new residents, provides classes and interest groups for different areas.

The sandstone quarry from the 1930s now makes up Dudley Davis (Quarry) Park. Sitting in the middle of the village, the many walking trails are popular throughout all four seasons.

Eagle Heights Community Gardens is one of the oldest and largest community gardens in the nation. Its members speak nearly 60 languages w/gardening methods from around the world.

Besides its challenging course, the Blackhawk Country Club is known for gorgeous lake views, effigy mounds listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the annual 4th of July fireworks.

An eight-acre farm remnant is now home to the Shorewood Hills swimming pool complex. This popular community spot has a 50-meter pool used for both recreational and competitive swimming.
